About the Data:
These population projections were prepared in November 2007. As a result, they do not reflect Statistics Canada’s latest population estimates. New population estimates for 2008 and revisions to historical data for earlier years were released on September 29, 2008. Users should note that the current online population estimates can differ from the latest data published by Statistics Canada. For example, latest data from Statistics Canada indicates a population of 507,895 as of July 1, 2008 while the 2008 number in the current online projections is 504,550. Users should note that while the precise numbers online may vary from recent Statistics Canada data, the trends displayed in the projections are still considered valid. New, updated population projections are expected to be available in December 2008.

Users who wish to access the latest Statistics Canada official population estimates should visit the Newfoundland & Labrador Statistics Agency site.

Data for 1986 to 2007
Data for the entire province from 1986 to 2007 and the St. John's Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) from 1986 to 2001 are the official population estimates available from Statistics Canada at the time of publishing (November 2007). All other estimates and geographical breakdowns were prepared by the Economic Research and Analysis Division.
