The goods sector accounts for 37 per cent of GDP and 23 per cent of employment in the economy. This sector is the main driver of exports. Most production stems from natural resources and is sold in foreign markets. Economic diversification, however, is allowing for increased production by non-resource manufacturers who sell their products nationally and internationally. Many rural communities in the province have been historically dependent on resource based industries such as forestry and fishing.
