Population Projections - On-line Projections

UPDATED April 2009

Projections - Main | About the Data | Province by Age | Province by Zone | Economic Zones by Age | Regional Integrated Health Authorities | School Districts | St. John's CMA | Judicial Centres | Rural Secretariat Regions

Projections were prepared in April 2009 for Newfoundland and Labrador using the POPPS Model. Data covers 2009 to 2025. High, Medium and Low scenarios are available, each with its own set of assumptions.

Users should note the upward revisions in all scenarios compared to the previous projections produced in November 2007. Fertility rate and death rate assumptions have not changed substantially from the November 2007 projections. However, due to the notable change in migration trends in 2008 (i.e. net in-migration and the first population growth in 16 years) and a favourable outlook for major project development in the medium term, migration assumptions for all scenarios have been revised upwards. The resulting impact of these changes is that by 2025 projected population is roughly 20,000 higher than under the old scenarios and the new medium scenario is roughly equivalent to the previous high scenario.

Questions and requests related to the projections should be addressed to the  Manager of Modelling and Technical Analysis.
