About the Data:

These population projections were prepared in April 2009.  Users should note the upward revisions in all scenarios compared to the previous projections produced in November 2007.  Fertility rate and death rate assumptions have not changed substantially from the November 2007 projections. However, due to the notable change in migration trends in 2008 (i.e. net in-migration and the first population growth in 16 years) and a favourable outlook for major project development in the medium term, migration assumptions for all scenarios have been revised upwards.  The resulting impact of these changes is that by 2025 projected population is roughly 20,000 higher than under the old scenarios and the new medium scenario is roughly equivalent to the previous high scenario.

Users should note that the current online population estimates can differ from the latest data published by Statistics Canada due to recent data revisions.  Users should note that while the precise numbers online may vary from recent Statistics Canada data, the trends displayed in the projections are still considered valid. The next population projections update is scheduled for early 2010.

Users who wish to access the latest Statistics Canada official population estimates should visit the Newfoundland & Labrador Statistics Agency site.
